No, you can book directly without a referral.
However, if you have a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate. In this case, a referral from your GP is required.

Medicare (CDM plan): Partial rebate available with a GP referral. (~$62)
Private health insurance: Many extras policies cover dietitian services
